Regional Championship 2007 at Festival of the West The Texas Rancher, Matt Sronce, and his wife, Tammy, took home the top honors at the Southwest Regional Championships of CMSA for 2007. This title was vied for by many of the top riders from across the country. The close race was not decided until the very last stage and the last riders had run. This created some intense moments for the audience and the riders both as the announcer, Darren Moore, kept everyone updated as he announced the top riders and what it would take to win. Over 140 Riders competed at the huge outdoor arena of the New Rawhide Western Town at Wild Horse Pass just south of Phoenix, Arizona for the weekend of March 15th through the 18th, 2007. The competition was held on Saturday and Sunday, following the day of mounted shooting seminars on Thursday and the Pro-Class and Colt Eliminator on Friday. The shoot was hosted by the Arizona Cowboy Mounted Shooters Association and their special committee of Susan Turner (Chairman) Bob & Jana Morris, Diana Olson and Dawn Morris. The extra hospitality expressed to riders arriving from all over the country and the celebrity shooters from the Festival of the West was very significant. There was a pot-luck welcome dinner around the Tipi (that was hand painted by Susan Turner & raffled off) on Friday night. The Saturday Barbeque out by the circle of Chuck wagons at the Festival of the West was very much like a real cattle drive dinner would have been experienced complete with lantern lights and singing around the campfires. The celebrity shoot was another chance to get cowboy mounted shooting out to new audiences. The president of Colt Firearms, General Keys, was there to present the new Colt .45 to the winner, Diamond Farnsworth. The other celebrities included stars from the movies and some of the representatives of CMSA sponsor companies. The SW Regional Colt Eliminator Men's Champion was Matt Sronce and the Women's Colt Eliminator Champion was Arizona’s Kristin Barnes. This exciting finale to the Eliminator was held under the lights on Saturday night with the winners receiving not only money but also Colt .45 Pistols from General Keys of Colt Firearms. The Pro-Class was won by Matt Sronce and Tammy Townsend and the Rifle was won by Matt Sronce men’s and Diana Olson Ladies’.
